30 Jul Are you listening to your emotions?
‘Emotional Intelligence’ is, broadly speaking, defined as:
>> the capability of individuals to recognize their own emotions and those of others, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, and manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt to environments or achieve one’s goal <<<
– A bit of a mouthful, isn’t it?
But really, one of the most profound (yet simplistic) explanations I’ve heard, is that: EMOTIONS ARE FEELINGS OR ENERGY IN MOTION.
In the course of counselling esteemed clients, I’ve come to learn that many of us hold back from listening to our emotions – perhaps it is the process of peeling away the layers that may leave us vulnerable, or the vagueness of pinpointing our exact emotional state, or the sheer courage it takes to name or label an incredibly overwhelming emotion (I’ve been there too).
Familiarizing ourselves with some of the (more general) emotional frameworks can be especially helpful in finding clarity and OWNING our current emotional state.
Onwards, Upward, Inward!
